Panna Cotta

Ingredients

  • 500 g fresh cream
  • 150 g sugar
  • About 7 grams of gelatin (I used 3 sheets of “Pane Angeli” gelatin)
  • vanilla bean or vanilla extract

Directions

  1. First, soak the gelatin in a cup of cold water for 10 minutes to soften it.

  2. Pour the cream, vanilla extract (or vanilla bean), and sugar into a small saucepan. Place the saucepan on the stove and heat the mixture over low heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. The cream must not boil, so keep the heat very low at all times.

  3. Squeeze out the gelatin and add it to the cream, stirring constantly until it is completely dissolved.

  4. I wanted to make small individual portions using muffin tins of various shapes. So, we dip the tins in cold water to make it easier to remove the panna cotta once it has cooled.

  5. Pour the panna cotta into the molds using a spoon and let it set in the refrigerator for at least 5 hours (I usually leave it overnight).

  6. Once set, place the molds in boiling water for 3 seconds before removing the panna cotta to make it easier to turn out, then serve with your choice of topping.

Panna cotta is a dessert that’s incredibly easy to make, yet impressive and delicious. With just a few ingredients, you’ll have a delicious dessert on your table.

I serve panna cotta with a caramel topping, but chocolate, berries, or vanilla cream are also perfect pairings.
